Authors and members are encouraged to identify themselves publicly by using their real name as their username on the site. However, this is not mandatory and a username may be a pseudonym provided that there is no offence or misrepresentation of a third party.

Passwords are encrypted. Registration passwords are generated automatically but members may change it to one of their own choosing.

A member's email address is kept private and will be deleted from the site at cessation of membership. Members may contact one another directly via LingoTango. Sender and receiver email addresses are not exposed in this process. Members who use their own email client software to reply to contacts sent via LingoTango will expose their email address and do so at their own risk.

LingoTango sets cookies on visitors' browsers to manage visitor sessions. No private information is collected or used by LingoTango except to display the usernames of currently logged in members to other currently logged in members, to permit members to communicate directly with one another and to track member logins. No private information is collected about anonymous visitors.

Advertisers and advertising intermediaries may also set cookies on visitors' browsers for the purposes of advertising management. LingoTango does not collect nor pass on any information which would allow any advertiser or intermediary to personally identify visitors.

Authors are expected to respect the privacy of living individuals and not publish anything which is unduly intrusive, particularly contact or family information. Content which does not meet this requirement will be amended or removed, as far as practicable, in consultation with the author.

Readers are encouraged to draw attention to any inadvertent exposure of third party private information.
